Life At The Red House

Program

We serve children from 8 weeks to 6 years. A full year program from 7am to 5:30 pm pm is offered to the families with the option of 5, 3, or 2 days enrollment. Our Preschool Program provides the perfect backdrop for educational success and flourishing students. Preschoolers are introduced to cognitive skills: sequencing and matching; social skills: similarities and diversity; and language art skills: storytelling and writing.

The Red House Academy sets the stage for self confidence by encouraging progress at a child’s own pace, according to individual needs and abilities. Schedule a tour today to experience a day in the life of your preschooler!

Engage! Enrich! Enjoy!

Engage!

We are passionate about education and serve an important role in helping to shape and guide, as we partner with parents, children build the right foundation for future learning. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that students can rise to the challenge of high expectations when provided with meaningful opportunities to take responsibility for their own learning. We believe that when students are given the chance to discover for themselves what they really hope to achieve, and are supported in the process of learning how to set and accomplish their own goals, their full potential can be realized.

Enrich!

Education is more than academics.  Physical development, music, creative arts, gardening and foreign language activities are equally important to ensure that each area of your child’s brain develops to its fullest potential.  We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where your child can explore, create, and foster (STEM) science, technology, engineering and math skills. Our exclusive Enrichment Programs are woven into the daily curriculum to ensure that every child receives a well-balanced, educational experience.

  • Livestrong!: Your child begins each day with simple “mind-stretching” exercises to activate prior knowledge and stimulate reasoning, memory and concentration.
  • Thums Up!: Your child laughs and enjoys fun while engaging in physical fitness activities that are designed to strengthen bodies and stretch supple muscles.
  • Rhythm and Notes: The Red House Academy”s unique music program teaches your child to understand, appreciate, and make music by immersing them in the language and joy of music at school and at home.
  • Mud Pies: Natural curiosity is awakened in monthly gardening and nature study. Your child plans the garden layout, plants the seeds, observes the plants growing and harvests the vegetables in the Primrose Patch.
  • Mucho Mundo: Along with Spanish vocabulary, songs and Indian customs, your child learns about cultural diversity.
  • Technology:  Preschoolers develop cooperative problem-solving skills with the use of Computers. They may also have an advantage if they have the opportunity to play with educational programs, as many learn reading and number skills from computer software.

Enjoy!

Are there moments like this one when children are fully involved, curious about finding answers to real questions, taking initiative, enthusiastic? The room hums with positive energy and children are deeply engaged in their learning. You step back with a deep sense of satisfaction and think, “Wow! They are working well together. I wish it were always like this.” You recognize that the children are a community of learners.

  • Play is our brain’s best way of learning!!
  • Give the world the best you have, and the best will come to you!

Safety

Energetic preschoolers enjoy shared and independent learning experiences while being lovingly supervised by highly talented teachers. Learning centers within the classroom—both indoor and outdoor are designed for preschoolers—are age appropriate.
For added safety, closed toes shoes are a requirement by all children while inside and outside. Preschoolers are encouraged to participate in health and safety measures, and learn valuable life skills.

In a cheery atmosphere, teachers support children in practicing and expanding new skills. Proper preschooler to teacher ratio is always maintained. All toys are age appropriate and sanitized. Extra measures are in place to maintain the highest level of cleanliness. Preschoolers are lovingly guided and encouraged to explore safety indoor and outside on our playground-specially designed for preschoolers.

Yoga

The benefits of yoga for children.

  1. Enhances Physical Flexibility. Offering yoga to your children as a fun exercise promotes physical strength as their muscles grow and develop. While typical children’s yoga programs are shorter, the poses still challenge muscle groups and strengthen while also being fun.
  2. Refines Balance and Coordination. Children will be challenged to balance in new ways through yoga. As coordination and balance are tied closely together, we have found that children’s yoga provides valuable benefits in the area of enhanced stability and also helps with fine motor skill development.
  3. Develops Focus and Concentration. Through yoga exercise programs children are offered the unique opportunity to escape overstimulation of video games and television. This develops their focus and concentration skills.
  4. Boosts SelfEsteem and Confidence. Yoga creates opportunities for children to be proud of themselves and the work they have done. Learning poses and keeping balanced encourages children to be confident in themselves.
  5. Strengthens the MindBody Connection. Just as it does in adults, yoga creates a sense of peace and calms the mental state of children.
  6. Teaches discipline and reduces impulsivity. Through yoga children can learn the valuable skills of selfcontrol and selfdiscipline.
  7. Yoga can reduce challenging behaviors in the classroom by providing a physical outlet for children to express themselves.

Music

All children are naturally musical. When they are exposed to music at an early age, they begin reaching musical milestones, much like all other aspects of learning. Music for music’s sake is a benefit in and of itself. It allows us to experience as well as express many emotions. It has been known to lower the production of cortisol (the “stress hormone”) and raise our dopamine levels which help us feel pleasure, satisfaction and motivation. In addition, music making at a young age supports many other aspects of learning:
  • when a child picks up and plays an instrument such as egg shakers, rhythm sticks, jingle bells, etc., they are developing their fine motor skills.
  • when a child gets up to move to music, by jumping, stomping, galloping, spinning, stretching, etc., they are developing their gross motor skills.
  • when a child learns a new song, they are adding words to their vocabulary, often times words not necessarily used in conversational language
  • when a child creates patterns (like clapping then patting their knees) to move their bodies to the beat, they are developing their cognitive skills.
  • when a child works together with their peers to move something to the music, like a parachute or cooperative band, they are developing their social and cooperative skills. Active musicmaking experiences support all learning, as well as supporting our need to be expressive, creative people.

Mud kitchen and water play

‘Dirt will get washed away but memories will last forever’. The mud kitchen and water play are the favorite times for children in summer. It not only cools the body, but also gives opportunity to children to explore textures, be creative, develop gross and fine motor skills, create social connections, and have fun. Playing in dirt can bolster their immune system while reducing their risk of allergies and asthma.

Gardening

Gardening has sensory aspects, gets children outside in the dirt, and can teach them life lessons and some important science. Gardening can teach them at an early age how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Gardening activates their senses and motor skills, teaches them about natural processes through play, helps them gain responsibility, patience and awareness about the importance of the environment, nurtures self-confidence and healthy diet habits.

Outdoor space and events

Our outdoor space is designed to complement the learning that children get in the classroom. Black
board, climbing structures, slides, musical instruments, stage for drama and public speaking, bicycles,
sand boxes and plenty of room to run and play with friends.

We plan and celebrate many events throughout the year, like ice cream trucks, tooth fairy, Halloween
and holiday parties, pumpkin picking, graduations etc.

School closure

The decision to close or to have delayed start or early release will be made by the director keeping in
mind the safety of children, families and staff. Alerts will be sent out through the usual communication
medium (e.g., Class Dojo).

Late Start/Early Release

  • If the Holbrook Public Schools are starting late by an hour or more, the school will not open until after 8:00 AM due to the need to clear paths and driveways.
  • In order to ensure everyone’s safety, it is necessary to call the school at 7817673110 before 8 AM and leave a message to notify the school if your child is going to attend or not.
  • In the event of an early closing, parents or the person designated on your Emergency Release Form will be notified to come pick up your child. All families are required to have someone who can pick them up quickly (under 60 minutes) in the event of an emergency or illness.
  • All parents should speak to a teacher at the school before taking their children out in bad weather.
  • No child will ever be left at the school unattended either by staff or parents.
